I've been here many times, get something different every time with the build your own burger sheets and I honesty can't get enough. Impeccable service and food. Highly recommend.

This place isn't really even good. It is the Kardashian of burger places, all looks no talent. I did the make your burger with their "prime rib recipe," but really it was a greasy pile of tasteless slop. Their fries are expensive and soggy. Their beer selection is weak. Their "craft" taste like a generic soda stream pop. The service was bad. This is my second time going. I had a similar experience my first time around about two years, I guess something's don't change.

I found out Bagger Dave's is a chain after going in. The founder went to U of Dayton near my hometown of Cincinnati, and I think Bagger Dave's would really be appreciated there now. I ordered a custom built burger with a few (or more) toppings. I have to say that it was crafted well. Flavorful and juicy without being greasy. The burger was seasoned well and with the jalapenos was -just- hot enough for a chilly Sunday afternoon. I also nabbed some fresh fries which were great. These weren't pre-seasoned like at a Red Robin or Five Guy's and they were fresh cut, fresh fried delicious! In addition I tried a few of their house cola's including a root-beer float which is always a favorite. What better way to satiate a bit of homesickness than with a perfectly comforting float eh?

Bagger Dave's is my favorite Build-a-Burger chain, even topping the Counter in Los Angeles for me, so today on my last night in Michigan in 5 months, I was sure this was where I wanted to eat. I went to the first Bagger Dave's I'd tried, where I'd gotten perfect medium burgers before, but I was disappointed today and also on the previous visit. Last time our burgers and fries came out cold as if they'd been sitting for a bit. This time the burger was warm, but it was well done rather than medium. Also the pumpkin shake I ordered was just slightly thicker than cold milk. Finally, their beer menu didn't match what was on tap. Despite these issues if I had tonight to redo, I would eat here again because I love the combination of toppings (and the train!), but it was a bit of a disappointing experience.

Overpriced mediocre burgers...even if you build it yourself, it's greasy.... And all the sides cost extra...except for a thin pickle.... Not much of a beer selection... Crunchy's has a better selection... Wait staff doesn't care... And if you must go, eat in the back where the train doesn't sound like it's raining on a tin roof... Just got a comment from Bagger Daves.... After reading other such replies, it's sounds like a robo reply..."sorry it didn't meet your expectations" and "let the kitchen staff know"... Yes, nice that they reply, but I've been to this place other times and now I know that nothing will change... You either like them or not... And if you give them only 3 stars, they might give you a free meal...

Overpriced and overhyped. Food: Burgers are definitely "elevated" but not enough to justify prices ($8 basic burger with no sides). Topping combinations are inventive, but the patties are bland and dry. Sides are extra, and small side of fries was an exorbitant $3, bringing the price for an okay burger and fries to $11. Drinks: Full bar, but the place bills itself as a beer joint. That selection is rather small, and isn't particularly diverse. Way too many IPAs for such a short list. A pint (maybe 20oz?) from a local brewer ran nearly $7. Service/Atmosphere: Nicely decorated, for a slick chain, but was almost completely empty when I dined. Service at the bar was solid, but a little slow. Sitting at the bar gave me to opportunity to observe servers as they cashed out and talked with bartenders - way too conversation about which table tipped how much within earshot of a customer. Overall, I paid $18 before tax & tip for a mediocre burger and beer experience at a place that markets itself on burgers and beer. I could, and should, have gone up the road to the Peanut Barrel, Dagwood's, or Crunchy's for a more authentic meal.

As a person with Celiac Disease, I'm VERY limited on places I trust to safely eat. The last few times I've been here, I've had ZERO reactions to potential cross contamination of gluten. The options are vast compared to other restaurants and the portions are VERY generous. A GF burger option turns into a "bowl" which mimics a salad. It's BRILLIANT, really. Other places would simply leave the bun out and you'd still be hungry. Not here! Mystery drinks are fun,,too....and MUST do the sweet chips. Nachos are on appetizer list, but CLEARLY is a meal by itself.

I am not sure where to begin...with the poor food or service. The mac 'n cheese was totally tasteless. The house salad was warm which rendered it pretty unpleasant. I am guessing the poor service is due to management practices rather than waitress skill. We were about an eighth done with our food when asked if we wanted the remainder of our meal boxed up. I realize this is a common practice now in an effort to move customers along but the place was nearly empty and will remain so unless the food improves!

We were in EL moving our son onto campus and decided on lunch at Bagger Daves. We had never been any of the locations and we decided to try it. So Sunday afternoon at about 2:00 we waited 5 minutes for a hostess, she sat us us, we waited 5 Minutes for someone to take our drink order, and another 5 to get water and iced tea. I think the bartender was waiting on us and he took our order for 4 burgers. Now we waited over 30 minutes for overpriced tasteless burgers. The restaurant was not busy at the time, tables had not been cleared and the service was horribly slow. I have a ton of patience with restaurant staff and service but this was beyond unacceptable and way overpriced. Thanks for lesson Dave.

Never order for pickup...picked up my food and got cold/last bit of fries that looked and tasted hours old. I can't say I'll never eat there again because the burger was pretty good but I'll never order for pickup from there again.

I tried going here for dinner last week, and when the waiter came by and asked for our drink orders, we asked for coffee. He explained that their coffee machine was broken, so we asked for tea. He explained to us that they don't have tea either. First off, I'm a little worried that your restaurant isn't capable of making hot water. Second, I used to work at a chain restaurant, and if the coffee machine broke, and a customer wanted coffee, our manager would've gone to the store, bought a Mr. Coffee, and given them whatever they wanted. If you're looking for burgers and craft beer in East Lansing, don't bother with Bagger Dave's- head down the street to Crunchy's where they have consistently good food, craft beer, helpful staff, and coffee AND tea.

The menu is always changing. My very first time here there were sloppy fries and the burgers were good. My favorite was the BBQ bacon burger! The chipotle BBQ sauce is really great prob one of the best I've tasted. But when I returned a few months later they changed a lot of things. Fries were now included which boosted up the price to ~$10-11 which is really high for a burger that should already come with fries like every restaurant. They should definitely start doing specials on a weekly basis because there are plenty of burger places in town that are right in price and flavor.

  • Andy B.

They've redone the menu again and moved to a full 8oz burger rather than stacking two burgers. They can now cook to order also. Still a bit pricy, but the food is leaps and bounds better.

I love the turkey burger at Bagger Dave's! Make it how you like it... pick the bun, the toppings, the condiments. Sides are extra, which is kind of a bummer, but the burger is pretty filling by itself. When we have ordered the fries they have been a little soggy, just FYI. I tried the side of mac and cheese last time and didn't like it at all. I took one bite and stopped eating it - the server actually took it off my bill, which I greatly appreciated. It was just icky. We have had good service and have no complaints there. One thing to note is that the front room facing Grand River Ave gets very cold, both in the winter and in the summer (a/c) so if you tend to prefer it a little warmer ask to sit in the back by the bar. The booths back there are comfy and a little quieter than the main dining space anyway. Can't speak to the drinks - I only drink water. But there seems to be a large menu of options for the drinker in your life. Lots of TV's in the bar area... train goes around the ceiling in the front dining room, which kids enjoy... big windows for lots of natural light... and they do have a patio on the side but I haven't dined out there yet. PS: When we were there last month they had done away with the little paper "create your own burger" slips at the table. Today they were back! Yay! A much easier and more enjoyable way to customize your burger. Thanks for bringing the paper back, BD's!

They have this annoying train running around the perimeter of the building horrible acoustics add to that the clickity clack of the overhead train. I will never be back.

What a great place to randomly pop in to. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The burger meat was delicious and the options are endless. We tried two of the macaroni dishes which were both really good, especially the nacho style ones. I would definitely not call this a burger joint, a burger joint is a dive with amazing cheap burgers. The prices are a little high here especially if you're just lookin for a burger joint. The burgers had plenty of flavor and were juicy and dripping with toppings, we were pleased. We ordered from the create your own list rather than the pre listed burgers

  • Brandon S.

Stopped in here randomly for some lunch. I knew nothing of it. The food is solid. Not bad by any means, but not impressive either. I did enjoy the fact that you can pick all the toppings for your burger and/or fries. That is always a plus in my book. The Sloppy Dave's Fries are a large order though, so you can order them as an appetizer or split them amongst a few people. There are a lot of options for the burgers. It does not matter for me, but i know a lot of people that would like the fact they can get a turkey burger instead. The burgers are big. You get your moneys worth out of them. My server was friendly and prompt.

First of all, whoop de doo that you have craft beers. Everyone does. This is a burger joint and the burgers here are seriously below average. Small, overcooked little patties that were dry and tasteless. No wonder you offer so many sauces and condiments. I didn't even finish mine. The fries were OK, but seriously overly salted. I took my 2 kids there and $30.00 later had seriously wished we had just gone to Wendy's, or for the same price, Ruby Tuesdays. I can't imagine anyone ever going back because of the food. Which I am quite sure is the case because we went there on a Sunday around noon and there was maybe 5 other people in the restaurant.

Mmmmmm, Bagger Dave's is great. Custom made burgers from little paper order sheets. Fries come with many available toppings as well. Happy, bright atmosphere and cheerful waitstaff. Price is decent too for food but downright HIGH for alcoholic beverages. I'll be coming here often for the burger and fries but I'll have a water with that please!

As a stopping point between a wedding ceremony and reception in the area, my friends and I expected to have a few Michigan brews and then have a our food later. Although Bagger Dave's prides itself on serving local craft beer, the selection is underwhelming. (I could find almost double the amount of Michigan beer on tap at some other bars down the road.) Not to mention when we had questions for our server about the bottled beers that did not have menu descriptions, she had to run around to actually find anyone on staff who was knowledgeable.

Great customizable burgers! Bagger Dave's is this great burger joint that has a family establishment feel with a whole sports bar look to it as well. The service is great and the ambiance is pretty nice. (They even have this model train that goes around the whole place). They've got a giant bar in the back and a menu with lots of good munchies. The best part is the customizable burgers with reasonable prices. My buddies and I all made our own burgers. You choose the number of type and number of burger patties you want. They have a good selection of buns and cheeses, as well as various kinds of sauces. The toppings are great too. I got a fried egg, mushrooms, and bacon on mine. The burger is cooked great and has a wonderful flavor to it. The fries are are hand cut with the skins on, and are fantastic. They have a wide variety of beers, but priced a little high. Overall, this place is a great place to grab lunch and catch a game. The burgers and fries were great, but they have other things like salads, sandwiches, etc. For the price, this is definitely worth coming back for.

"They're skimping out on everything" were the words my wife said as she finished her veggie burger. This place is not a real burger joint. You can't serve dry tasteless burgers for $8. I had to ask for more sauce for my burger as someone in the kitchen was obviously being stingy. The burger was not impressive in anyway. I wish I could explain more but it was so forgettable I cant remember. So then they still charge extra for fries. Which is fine if your fries are worth charging for. I had asked the waitress to compare them to the size of 5Guys fries down the road. She said she had never been there. Clearly no one in management had been there either. These fries were the same size as what you get in a kids happy meal. She never brought us silverware, napkins and never checked on us except to bring us the check. And if you're excited about the beer list, there are far better places to drink craft beer than an overpriced burger place. Bottom line. So bad food, bad service all at a price. Bhoo. Pass. Don't waste your time or well earned ducts here. There are far better Burger joints on the same street in EL. Crunchys and Peanut Barrel.

Pretty solid selection of local craft beers. The food is pretty good but nothing special. I'd probably rate this place a 3 if not for the beer selection.

They did a great job with this place, the clean lines and concept are unique and incomparable to any other burger joint in EL. The Tuscan burger was the best turkey burger i've EVER laid my taste buds on. Basil, onion, vinaigrette in a delicious bun. The legendary Bloody Mary's are LEGENDARY! Topped with jalapeno, pepperjack cheese and a mild pickle (wish it were zestier). We asked for extra spicy and the rim came packed with all sorts of herbs and cayenne pepper. Mmm!! Would definitely go again. Only downer was the Train Wreck burger, was rather bland and if you have a fried egg why add mushrooms?! Replace it with bacon! Better yet you can customize your own burger. All burgers come double patties unless you opt for the small which is just one. They also pair beers for you! Loved this place. Also cute outdoor seating.

I wanted a simple olive burger that wasn't dripping in mayo and had only one olive slice on it. Stopped at Bagger Dave's, having been there only once before and liked it. I used the Build Your Own Burger card to choose green olives (lots) and mayo (some), and sauted onions. The burger came out Perfect! Exactly how I wanted it, and I am picky. Andrea provided fast, friendly service. Drew Hundley, managing partner, visited my table and we chatted for a bit. I told him that I appreciated Andrea and the kitchen listening to me and getting it right, that I was happy.

Ok, first a disclaimer this is not your premium burger joint, this is the type where you hate and love yourself after you finish eating it. For that style it is pretty good. The burgers are not really about the burger meat per say, it is about all you can get one it and really create your own masterpiece.... Or monstrosity. It is kind of like a better Five Guys Burgers. That being said all of this would really only get it three stars for me in this category. However, with their beer selection it bumped it up another one.

If you want a solid burger, good fries, and a nice selection of Michigan craft beers, this is your place. I've been several times, and the food is always spot on (although I don't recommend getting the nachos...not my favorite). I love the bleu cheese burger. The service has been really hit or miss. It's also always ridiculously cold in there, to the point that one night we asked our waitress if she could get them to turn the air conditioner off (it was the middle of winter). If you're cold-natured make sure you bring a jacket!

We have been here several times and enjoy their veggie burger and veggie nachos! We do not eat meat so finding places we enjoy for a great price can sometimes be a difficult task. Chelsea has been our bartender extraordinaire many times and her service is nothing less than immaculate. This paired with great conversation, Bagger Dave's has become a strong place of choice for our lunch!!

I have to say they were probably going to get a low rating from me before I tasted the burger. Because a burger joint that only cooks the burgers to well is not a burger joint. It's mcdonalds. That's about what the burger reminded me of - burger king or mcdonalds. It was kinda on the dry side, and not very big. Actually, i think burger king would have tasted better. I'd much rather go to five guys. The only plus to bagger is they have a bigger menu and beer if you are into that. Their fries weren't bad though.

This is a pretty good burger joint out in East Lansing! I went here with a bunch my friends during finals week at MSU. They have a great burger selection. In addition, if you do not like their burgers you can make your own burger creation. I actually tried one of the burgers off their menu called the train wreck burger. It was a giant burger with iceberg lettuce, sauteed onions and mushrooms, mild cheddar cheese, Dave's Railhouse Burger Sauce (sort of like a Thousand Island dressing), a fried egg, and fresh cut potato fries. This was delicious!!! I could not eat the entire portion, because it was so big. As a side I tried the sweet potato chips with sea salt. Wasn't a huge fan of the chips, but the dipping sauce that I got honey cinnamon was really good. Overall, if you are looking for a good burger at descent price, this is the place to go. Yeah Baggar Dave's!!!

I heard good things about this new place and decided to give a try. I am not a fan of the generic fast food burger options but I do enjoy a good burger once in a while. The good about this place is that you can custom order your burger and fries pretty much any way you like. They also serve alcohol for when you want to have beer with your food (I didn't because I went for lunch). The ambience is great and the waiters were as good as it gets. The place was busy for lunch and it looks like an even more fun place in the evening. So why three stars only? What was disappointing was the meat itself. It reminded me a lot of what you would get at BK rather than a thick juicy patty of quality meat cooked to order I was hoping for in a full-service burger joint like this. Otherwise what's the point? So I left not quite satisfied and I am not sure I will be rushing back any time soon.

Bagger Dave's isn't a bad restaurant. I was served everything I asked for. Service is great: the staff is friendly and attentive; if I had questions that my waiter didn't know, they were happy to find out for me. I love the customization options, and "sloppy" fries are a regular staple during my visits. That said, there are still a lot of improvements to be done for a new franchise with lots of potential One complaint is just that all burgers come well done. That seems contradictory when I recall a lot of their own praise for the quality of the meat. BD had the potential to become my #1 spot to go to if I can get a medium piece of beef. It's not a *huge* issue, but to me, it's the difference between a true burger spot and glorified fast food. Other than that, there's an issue with general quality. My girlfriend and I got two desserts; the "sinfully sweet brownie sundae" and "Dave's sweet surprise;" this item, other than being poorly named, is just vanilla ice cream topped with sweet potato chips and the restaurant's cinnamon honey sauce. The ice cream in the sundae was fine, but the brownie was room temperature and had the texture and feel of something out of a package: tough and decidedly not fresh. The Dave's surprise ice cream item is a weird item; this may sound too subjective, but yam chips don't compliment ice cream very well. Lastly, but BD's doesn't cater to the college crowd. This may sound too critical, but considering that it has locations right by MSU and not far from UMich, BD's limits its appeal through comparatively very expensive microbrew prices and a closing time of 10pm. A lot of students are free by 7 or 8 in the evening leaving them with little time to try BD's, and there were a couple times during college football season where I would have loved to go to to BD's after for during a night game (like after Kirk Cousins' hail mary on Wisco).
